The Constance To Go wallet is the Hermès piece that blurs the line between a wallet and a bag. It has the H clasp of the Constance, the card slots of a long wallet and a detachable strap, so it can live inside a tote all week and then go out on its own at night. Here is what it holds, how it compares with the Constance Slim, and which colour and leather to choose.
What the Constance To Go wallet is
It is a flap wallet that closes with the Constance H clasp and opens onto card slots and compartments. A slim leather strap clips to each side, with a drop of about 51 cm, so the wallet hangs at the hip when worn crossbody. Unclip the strap and it drops into a larger bag like any other wallet. In short, you buy one piece and get two.
It measures about 20 × 11 × 4 cm. That is wide enough for cards, folded notes, keys and most phones. However, the largest phones are a squeeze, so check your phone’s length against the 20 cm width before you buy.
Constance To Go wallet or Constance Slim?

The Constance Slim is the other small Constance. It measures about 13 × 10 × 3 cm and has no strap. Instead, a loop on the back lets you wear it on a belt, or you can carry it alone. It holds cards and a few notes, but not a phone. Therefore choose the Slim if you want the smallest possible Constance, and the To Go if you want something you can wear on its own. Ours start at $2,800 for the Slim in Craie Epsom.
If you need room for more than a phone and cards, the next step up is a bag. Our guide to the Constance 18 or 24 explains the difference.
Leathers
- Epsom. An embossed calfskin with a fine cross-hatch grain. It is light, rigid and wipe-clean, so it keeps the wallet’s sharp edges and resists scratches. Most of our wallets are Epsom.
- Evercolor. A softer calf with a subtle grain and a more relaxed feel in the hand, such as the Moka Evercolor.
- Box. A smooth, polished calf that develops a patina with use. It shows scratches sooner, yet many collectors prefer it for exactly that reason. See the Black Box wallet.

Colours in stock

Neutrals such as Black, Craie and Étain work every day and hold their value best. Meanwhile pastels such as Bubblegum and Céleste are the colours people search for, and they make the wallet an accessory rather than a necessity. Orange is the house colour, which is why it feels so unmistakably Hermès.

What to check before you buy
Look at the H clasp first. It takes the weight of the flap every time you open it, so the plating thins at the contact points over the years. Then check the corners, which rub inside a bag, and the strap clips. Finally, confirm that the strap is included, because a To Go without its strap is just a wallet. Every listing we publish states what comes with it.

Common questions
Does a phone fit in the Constance To Go wallet?
Most phones do, because the wallet is about 20 cm wide. However, measure the largest models first.
Can the Constance To Go wallet be worn crossbody?
Yes. The detachable strap has a drop of about 51 cm, which sits at the hip on most people.
Which leather lasts best?
Epsom. It is rigid and scratch-resistant, so it keeps its shape after years in and out of a bag.
