Hermès FAQ: ordering and payment

How do I place an order?

Find the piece you want, open the listing and read the condition report and inclusions, then add it to your bag and go to checkout. Enter your delivery details, choose how you would like to pay, and place the order. One of us will then email you from sales@herbirkinbags.com to confirm the piece is reserved for you and to walk you through completing payment.

Every piece is one of a kind, so an item stays yours from the moment the order is placed. If you would rather do the whole thing by telephone or WhatsApp, we are happy to.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Debit cards, major credit cards, bank wire transfer and direct bank deposit, and selected cryptocurrencies — Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), USDT, USDC and Bitcoin Cash (BCH). Email us for bank transfer details rather than taking them from anywhere else.

We do not accept card payments above $9,999 without prior arrangement. For an order over that amount, call us first so we can set the payment up properly; orders placed on the website above $9,999 without prior arrangement are cancelled automatically. We reserve the right to hold despatch until payment has cleared to us.

Can my purchase be financed or paid in instalments?

We do not currently offer financing. What we can do is hold a piece against a deposit while you arrange payment through your own bank, and we accept transfers, cards and cryptocurrency to make that as straightforward as possible. Talk to us — at this level, most arrangements are workable.

Is the price negotiable?

Prices are set against what the piece is genuinely worth in its condition and specification, so there is not usually much room in them. Where there is, we would rather you asked than walked away. For more than one piece, ask about the pair.

You do not have the piece I am looking for. Can you find it?

Usually, yes. Tell us the style, size, leather, colour, hardware and the condition you would accept, and the ceiling you are working to. We have an extensive network of suppliers and dealers, and if the piece exists in the market we will generally find it. Sourcing a specific combination can take days or months depending on how rare it is — we will tell you honestly which it is likely to be.

How does the concierge service work?

We fill a request either from our own inventory or by sourcing it through our dealer network. Where we have to buy a piece in specifically for you, we take a payment in advance to secure it. Once it arrives with us we examine it, photograph it in full and send you everything before you commit the balance. The balance is due prior to despatch.

Because a sourced piece is bought on your instruction, it falls outside the change-of-mind return window — though the authenticity guarantee and the condition guarantee apply to it exactly as they do to anything else.

Do you offer personal shopping or private appointments?

Yes, for every client rather than as a tier. Call or message to ask anything about a piece, to check on a shipment, or to complete a purchase by telephone rather than online. Private viewings are by appointment at 7007 Friars Rd, San Diego, CA 92108, Monday to Friday between 10:00 and 18:00.

Authenticity and condition

Can I be sure my piece is authentic?

Every item on this site is guaranteed authentic, and every item is examined more than once. We source from vetted suppliers and usually know where a piece was originally bought, which removes most of the risk before it reaches us. Because we take physical possession of everything we sell, each piece is then inspected by hand for authenticity and condition. Every Hermès Birkin, Kelly and Constance is checked by our supplier, by us, and by at least one independent third-party authenticator.

Behind that sits a money-back guarantee with no time limit: if a piece ever fails independent authentication, return it for a full refund including return shipping. Read how the examination works.

Can I have a piece independently authenticated?

Yes, and we would rather you did. Before you buy we will supply additional photographs of any specific area an authenticator asks to see. After you buy, have it assessed by any recognised third-party service — if they do not agree it is genuine, return it for a full refund including the cost of return shipping.

Do you issue a certificate of authenticity?

No, and be cautious of any reseller who does. A certificate a seller prints for themselves is a statement of their own opinion and carries no independent weight. What you get instead is a written condition report, detailed photography of every area we assess, and a full refund if an independent authenticator disagrees with us.

How do you grade condition?

On one scale, applied identically to every piece: Store Fresh, Unworn, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair and Refurbished. Wear is photographed close up rather than shot around, and described in the listing. The Authentication page sets out what each grade means.

Do pieces come with their original box, dust bag and receipt?

Inclusions are itemised on every listing and never assumed. Where a box, dust bag, clochette, lock, keys, rain cover or receipt is present, it is photographed and listed. Where something is missing we say so plainly rather than letting you discover it on delivery. Packaging is easy to obtain separately, so we treat it as part of completeness and value — never as evidence of authenticity.

Which leather or size should I choose?

It depends entirely on how you will carry it, and it is the question we most enjoy being asked. Togo and Clémence are forgiving and soften with use; Epsom holds its shape and resists scratching; Box Calf is beautiful and unforgiving. A 25 is an evening and errands bag, a 30 is the everyday one, a 35 carries a laptop. Our Journal covers this properly, or just ask us what you plan to put in it.

Shipping and delivery

When will my order ship?

Within one to two business days of payment clearing. Orders placed after 6:00 pm Pacific Time are handled the next business day. Every piece is photographed again immediately before packing, and those photographs are sent to you along with the tracking number. Shipments are marked Direct Signature Required, so the carrier will not leave a parcel unattended.

What does shipping cost?

Insured shipping within the United States is free. Everywhere else, including the United Kingdom, a flat insured fee of $158 per order applies, calculated at checkout. UK orders also ship delivered duty paid, so import VAT and duty are settled by us before despatch and nothing further is owed on arrival. Full detail is on the Shipping Policy.

Do you ship worldwide?

We ship to every country covered by our cargo insurance — most of Europe, Asia and the Gulf, along with the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand — using PostNL, Prime Transport and UPS. There are destinations we cannot reach, currently including Mainland China, Russia, Mexico and Brazil. If you are unsure about your country, ask before ordering.

Will I be charged sales tax or customs duties?

Sales tax is applied where it is due and is calculated at checkout, so you see it before you pay. UK orders are delivered duty paid and nothing further is owed on arrival. For other international destinations, import duty and VAT are set by the destination country and collected by the carrier before delivery — commonly around 8–10% of the item cost, though it varies widely. Ask us and we will find out the figure for your country before you commit.

Can you mark the parcel as a gift or declare a lower value?

No. Every parcel is declared accurately and at full value. Under-declaring is customs fraud, it makes you as the importer liable for penalties, and it invalidates the transit insurance that would otherwise cover you if the parcel were lost. We will not do it, however the request is framed.

What if my parcel is lost or arrives damaged?

Every shipment is insured for its full value from the moment it leaves us until it is signed for. If a parcel goes missing or arrives damaged, that is our problem: contact us and we refund you in full while we deal with the carrier. Photograph any damage to the outer packaging before opening it, and inspect before signing where the carrier allows it.

Are exotic skins restricted?

Yes. Alligator, crocodile, lizard and ostrich fall under CITES, and moving them across borders requires permits that take time and are refused outright for some destinations. Where a listed piece is an exotic, we confirm what is possible for your country before accepting the order rather than after.

Returns and warranty

Can I return a piece if I change my mind?

Yes — within fourteen days of delivery, for a full refund, provided the piece comes back in the condition it left us with every inclusion it arrived with. Email us for a return authorisation before sending anything, and let us arrange insured tracked collection. Return carriage on a change of mind is at your cost. The full terms are on the Returns & Refunds Policy.

Why are you strict about the condition a return comes back in?

Because condition is most of the value. Our pieces are kept in a temperature-controlled environment in their original boxes, taken out only for inspection, photography and packing, and handled with gloves throughout. Once a piece leaves us we cannot control how it is handled, and a smudge or a missing scrap of protective plastic measurably changes what it is worth. Holding returns to the condition they were sold in is what lets us describe every listing honestly to the next person.

How quickly are refunds paid?

Within five working days of the piece reaching us and passing inspection, back to the original payment method. Your bank or card issuer may take a few days more to post it. Bank transfers and cryptocurrency payments are refunded by the route they came in.

What does the warranty cover?

Defects in materials and workmanship, for one year as standard and up to five years depending on the piece, to the original purchaser. Normal wear, misuse, water and grease damage, and any alteration or outside repair are not covered. See the Warranty for the claims procedure — it starts with an RMA number from us, and nothing should be sent before you have one.

How should I care for the bag?

Store it stuffed and upright in its dust bag, out of direct sunlight, and never in plastic. Keep it away from water, oil, perfume and denim dye. Do not overfill it. Avoid conditioners and cleaning products unless we or a specialist have told you that one suits that particular leather — most damage we see arrives via a well-intentioned bottle.

Hermès FAQ: about us and privacy

Are you affiliated with the brands you carry?

No. Her Birkin Bags is an independent reseller. We sell only authentic branded merchandise, but we are not affiliated with, authorised by, endorsed by, or an official boutique of any of the houses whose pieces we sell. Brand names are used solely to describe genuine goods we are offering.

Do you sell replicas or “mirror” pieces?

No. We deal exclusively in genuine goods. Anything that fails our examination is declined and never listed, at any price, under any description.

Do you buy or take pieces on consignment?

Yes, on both. Send photographs of the exterior, interior, hardware, blind stamp and any wear, together with whatever inclusions you have, and we will come back with an honest assessment and a figure. If you would rather we sold it for you, we can do that instead and tell you what it is realistically likely to achieve.

Is my information secure?

Card transactions are processed on our payment provider’s secure servers. That provider does not give us access to full card numbers, and we do not store them. We do not sell your personal information or share it beyond what is needed to take payment, ship your order and clear customs. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what we hold, why, and what rights you have over it.
