Warranty
A limited warranty of one to five years against defects in materials and workmanship: what is covered, what is not, and how to make a claim.
Warranty — last updated: 27 August 2026
Her Birkin Bags extends a limited warranty of one year, and up to five years depending on the piece, against defects in materials and workmanship. The term that applies to your purchase is stated on the invoice.
This warranty runs to the original purchaser only, commences on the date you receive the piece, and is not transferable. It sits alongside your statutory rights, which nothing here reduces, and alongside our authenticity guarantee, which is separate and has no time limit.
What the warranty covers
Any piece, or component part of a piece, found on inspection by Her Birkin Bags to be defective in materials or workmanship will be repaired or replaced at our option, at no charge, and returned to you with carriage prepaid.
Warranty cover on a repaired or replaced piece does not extend beyond the original expiry date of the warranty on the piece as first sold. Repair means repair carried out by Her Birkin Bags or by a repairer we have appointed in writing; we do not reimburse the cost of work commissioned elsewhere.
What the warranty does not cover
- Normal wear. Corner softening, patina, hairline marks on hardware and the gradual darkening of untreated leathers are how these pieces age. They are described honestly at the point of sale and are not defects.
- Misuse, neglect or accident — including overloading, crushing, exposure to heat or direct sunlight, and storage that allows the piece to lose its shape.
- Water, oil, grease, cosmetics, ink or dye transfer reaching the leather, lining, jewellery or hardware.
- Alteration or modification of any kind, including re-dyeing, re-plating, replacement hardware, added stitching, and any repair or disassembly carried out without our prior written approval. Work done elsewhere voids this warranty.
- Damage caused by cleaning products, conditioners or accessories that are, in our reasonable judgement, unsuitable for the leather or finish concerned.
- Rust or corrosion arising from the conditions in which the piece has been kept.
- Loss or theft, which is a matter for your own insurance.
Condition precedent: inspection
Before any remedy under this warranty is available, the piece must be delivered to Her Birkin Bags for inspection within the warranty period, and must be returned without disassembly or alteration. Outbound carriage for a warranty inspection is paid by you; if the claim is upheld, we refund it and return the piece carriage prepaid.
How to make a claim
- Tell us in writing. Email sales@herbirkinbags.com, or call +1 (614) 547 3596, with your order number, a full description of the fault, how and when it appeared, and photographs.
- Wait for authorisation. We will complete a warranty claim form and issue you a Return Merchandise Authorisation (RMA) number. Nothing should be sent before you have it.
- Mark the RMA number on the outside of the parcel. Anything arriving without one is returned to the sender, carriage collect, without inspection. There are no exceptions to this — it is the only way we can match a parcel to a claim.
- Pack it properly, insured and tracked, to prevent further damage in transit, and enclose a copy of the original invoice together with a written explanation of the fault.
- We inspect and report back. You will hear our assessment and whether the fault is covered. If it is, repair or replacement is carried out at no charge and the piece is returned to you carriage prepaid. If it is not, we will quote you for the repair at a reduced rate before doing anything; inbound and outbound carriage would then be payable by you.
Limitation of liability
The remedies set out above — repair or replacement of a defective piece or part — are the sole and exclusive remedies under this warranty. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Her Birkin Bags is not liable for incidental, consequential, special or punitive damages of any nature beyond that scope. A warranty claim is not grounds for cancellation of the contract of sale.
Nothing in this section excludes or limits liability where it cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Indemnity
Where a piece is bought for resale, the dealer or purchaser agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Her Birkin Bags against claims brought by them or by their own customers seeking relief that this warranty does not cover, or relief in addition to or in contravention of its terms.
Arbitration
Any controversy or claim between the purchaser and Her Birkin Bags arising out of or relating to the interpretation, performance or breach of this warranty, or relating to the sale, condition, repair or servicing of a piece sold by us, shall be resolved exclusively by arbitration. Arbitration shall be conducted in San Diego County, California, United States, under the Commercial Arbitration Rules of the American Arbitration Association, before a single arbitrator. The award is final and binding, and judgment on it may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction.
Claims relating to non-payment for goods sold are excluded from arbitration and shall be brought before the appropriate court in San Diego County, California. If any part of this section is held invalid or unenforceable, the remainder continues in full force.
Entire agreement
This warranty is the entire agreement between the parties on the subject of warranty, and may be varied only in writing signed by an authorised officer of Her Birkin Bags and by the purchaser. It gives you specific rights; you may also have other rights, which vary from state to state and from country to country.
Common questions about the warranty
How long is the warranty on my piece?
One year as standard, and up to five years on certain pieces. The exact term is printed on your invoice. If you cannot find it, email us your order number and we will confirm it.
Is the warranty the same thing as the authenticity guarantee?
No, and the difference matters. This warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship for a fixed term. The authenticity guarantee is separate, has no time limit, and entitles you to a full refund including return shipping if a piece ever fails independent authentication by a recognised third-party service. For change-of-mind returns, see Returns & Refunds.
Does the warranty transfer if I sell or gift the bag?
No. It runs to the original purchaser only. The authenticity guarantee, and the documentation and photography we supply with every piece, do travel with the bag and are what a future buyer will care about.
Can I have my bag repaired by my own leather specialist?
You can, but it voids this warranty, and we cannot reimburse the cost. Contact us first — in almost every case we can either carry out the work ourselves under warranty or approve a specialist in writing so that your cover survives.
Is wear to the corners covered?
No. Corner softening and patina are normal wear on a carried bag, not defects, and they are described and photographed honestly at the point of sale. What is covered is failure that should not happen in normal use — a seam that opens, hardware that fails, a lining that separates.
What happens if the fault turns out not to be covered?
We tell you what we found, and quote you for the repair at a reduced rate before touching anything. You are free to decline, in which case we return the piece to you and only the carriage is payable.
