Description
The Cartier Tank 30mm Platinum 1997 is for sale as a one-off piece. Louis Cartier drew the Tank in 1917 with the tracks of a Renault FT running through it, and the case has been in continuous production ever since. Almost nothing else in watchmaking has survived a century without redesign.
The case measures 30mm x 23mm in platinum, on a alligator skin strap. The movement is mechanical.
Production dates to 1997. Cartier has been making watches since 1904 and is shape-led rather than movement-led: the Tank, Santos, Crash and Baignoire are recognised by silhouette alone, which is why the discontinued and limited cases appreciate the way they do.
