The Cartier Ballon Bleu 28mm Rose Gold is for sale as a one-off piece. The Ballon Bleu wraps a sapphire cabochon crown into a curved guard, a design that became one of Cartier’s best-selling modern cases.
The case measures 28mm in rose gold, on a crocodile skin strap. The movement is quartz, battery-regulated and accurate to within seconds a month. It is diamond or gem-set; the stones are shown in the listing photography.
Cartier has been making watches since 1904 and is shape-led rather than movement-led: the Tank, Santos, Crash and Baignoire are recognised by silhouette alone, which is why the discontinued and limited cases appreciate the way they do.
