Bleu Nuit
A deep navy, dark enough to work as a neutral and warmer in the hand than black.
Bleu Nuit is night blue — a deep, saturated navy with enough darkness to function as a neutral and enough colour to be recognisably not black.
Why it works as a first colour
It is the most sensible non-black dark colour Hermès makes. It goes with everything black goes with, plus browns and tans that black fights, and it reads softer in person than a black bag does. For a buyer who wants a dark, practical bag without the severity of Noir, it is very often the right answer.
In poor light it can read almost black, which some buyers find disappointing and others find useful. Look at it in daylight before deciding.
Leather
In Togo it is matte and deep, with the grain preventing it from flattening into black. In Epsom it is cleaner and slightly brighter. In Swift it reaches its greatest saturation — a Swift Bleu Nuit has a depth that grained leathers cannot match, which is the general rule with strong colours.
Hardware
Palladium is the natural partner and the more common. The cool white metal reinforces the blue rather than competing with it, and the combination is one of the cleanest Hermès makes. Gold works and warms it considerably, which pushes the bag towards a more traditional register.
Wear
Dark colours forgive handling, and Bleu Nuit is no exception. The one thing to inspect closely is corner wear, which shows as a lighter edge on any dark leather, and the area under the handles where oils darken the surface further.
Value
Among the strongest of the coloured shades, sitting just behind the true neutrals. It is bought by people who want a dark bag and have decided against black, which is a large and consistent audience — so it sells reliably without ever commanding a scarcity premium.
