Kelly Retourne
Stitched inside out and turned, hiding the seams — the softer, more forgiving Kelly.

Much of what we source never reaches the site. Tell us the size, leather and hardware you want and we will look for it.
A Retourne Kelly is assembled inside out and then turned the right way round, which hides the seams inside the bag and rounds every edge. Set beside a Sellier, it is visibly softer, slightly larger for the same nominal size, and considerably more relaxed in posture.
Why most people should buy it
If the Kelly is going to be carried rather than displayed, Retourne is usually the right answer. The rounded edges are kinder in the hand, the softer construction is more tolerant of being over-filled, and the hidden seams mean there is no exposed edge paint to wear through.
It also suits the leathers most people want. Togo and Clémence both work beautifully in Retourne and are poorly suited to Sellier, which needs rigidity.
How it ages
Gently. The corners soften rather than rubbing through, and the bag develops a slight slouch across the top that most owners come to like. A ten-year-old Retourne in Togo generally looks lived-in rather than worn out.
The wear points are the two front straps and their tips, which take handling every time the bag is opened, and the base corners. Both are visible in good photography and both should be shown.
Retourne against Sellier at resale
Sellier commands a premium in the smaller sizes, particularly the 25 and 28 in Epsom, where the crisp line is exactly what buyers are chasing. In the larger sizes the gap narrows and can invert, because buyers of a 32 or 35 generally want capacity and softness rather than architecture.
Neither construction is better. They are different bags, and the honest question is which one you will actually reach for.
